Maya Craft Project

A Renewal of Ancestral Legacies

Everyone wants to do something to help heal
the disastrous imbalances on the planet in these times.
By taking action with Red Wind
to help the indigenous who live closest to the Earth,
you are protecting Mother Earth herself because,
as an ancient people & conscious Maya,
they are themselves taking many actions
with self-sustainable craft projects to protect our natural world.

Ohki Forest ~ Visions of the Earth Project

Ohki Forest (about Ohki) founded her craft project, named Visions of the Earth, 35 years ago to encourage the recovery of the exquisite Maya ancestral crafts & weavings as well as to provide an important means of survival & growing stability for hundreds of Maya artists & craftspeople & their families.

Then, in 2005, she established her US charitable non-profit organization, Red Wind Councils. More than ever, the artisans are inspired & motivated to rediscover & re-create their high-quality Maya designs in cotton weavings & embroidered textiles, pieces of clothing & accessories, Medicine pouches & sacred items for altars. The result of the artistic collaboration from these Maya individuals & their families, where the Maya women pass their ancient weaving techniques & patterns to their daughters & granddaughters, is one of extraordinary creativity in combining modern & traditional styles. Their dreams are given life in their exquisite, one-of-a-kind, handmade works of art, which are imbued with the spirit of the Maya land & the Original people of Chiapas.

Amalia ixmalé ~ Maya Textiles & Creations

The artistic vision of Amalia Ixmalé (about Amalia), the daughter of Ohki Forest (about Ohki Forest) & Eliberto Jimenez (about Eliberto), exquisitely combines ancient spiritual symbols & the traditional skills of Maya women weavers with contemporary designs, bringing Maya beauty into our daily lives. This emerging line includes exclusive pieces of clothing & altar cloths, which blend classic textiles & Maya visions with our modern needs.

Her name, Ixmalé (pronounced “ISH ma lay”), means Abundance of Corn in Maya language in order to call more abundance to the Maya women weavers she helps.
